The world of natural medicine is becoming overwhelming with the data available today. Sometimes it can be very expensive to go down the naturally healthy path when you are faced with so much information of what could help. It can be very confusing to someone that wants to use these natural products yet not always had the success expected by trying them. As you may know many prescriptions and over the counter medicines today come from a natural beginning. Aspirin came from the bark of a willow tree. Antibiotics come from things like mold and bacteria that is a natural process. Even strong pain killers come from plants like the poppy, valerian root, the cocoa plant, and foxglove. The problem is that many of these natural products are added too by chemicals and changed by processing and can cause a multitude of side effects, addictions, and even death. We are shying away from the processed because of the many issues that have arisen from taking these medications. Many more of us have learned all the items processed today that we intake or use, such as foods, medicines, cleaning products, and drinks can have lasting health problems. Is it possible to live naturally and heal you and your family naturally? Yes, it is possible, but it does take work and time. Two things in this world that many of us do not have the luxury of having. Not everyone has the time to study what is best for a headache that really works and causes no side effects. For example, all the following can help your headache: peppermint, lavender, clove, willow bark, and even lemon. That is only a few, there are about 41 herbs and essential oils that can help your headache. How do you know which one will help you right now? Why if you choose one now that it works today, and next week does not and something else works. The answer is complicated because you my friend are complicated. Do you have any other symptoms, do you have allergies to certain plants, what have you ingested recently, or how is your emotional state? Each of us are designed to know what our body needs, without us really having anything to do with it. You can think in terms of a reaction to a stimulus. Certain smells trigger things to happen in our body as well as skin reactions to what has touched it. I have one child that is allergic to most antibiotics out there today, he has skin problems, and he was a horrible eater for the first 10 years of his life. Many of us can probably relate to the type of person that only eats processed foods and will not eat enough fruit and vegetables to help provide enough nutrients to make a difference. As children and sometimes adults, these body types hardly drink water, or vitamin and mineral filled juices or drinks, and most likely hardly take vitamins of any kind to help supplement on a regular basis. Due to this type of living habits, these body types usually end up with allergies, tend to have weaker immune systems, more headaches and many times have behavior concerns throughout their life. This is one type of body that many of us can relate to either as ourselves, or our family members. The way these body types absorb nutrients is different than a body that gets the nutrients that it needs on a regular basis absorbs nutrients. For example, for the former body type, it takes herbs like turmeric and black pepper to allow the absorption of nutrients such as vitamin B’s, C’s, and antioxidants such as oregano, sage, and basil. Without the body being able to absorb enough of these nutrients, the body has a weaker immune system. For the body type that eats more fruits, vegetables, and protein rich foods that are not processed and its raw or natural state, your body is able to absorb nutrients easier and may have an adverse reaction to an intake of turmeric or black pepper. The ability to effectively absorb what the body needs is helpful to know what herb or plant will help you the most. The body tends to react negatively to a particular herb or plant through an allergic reaction or waves of nausea at the smell or taste. Just like a Doctor practices medicine by going through the symptoms and different medicines, an herbalist goes through the similar process. Herbs and plants have been out there since before we had data on them! The information available on them is so well-documented, you could write books yourself from all the information you find. The results were not always instantaneous from the natural substances such as pain relief, fever reduction, or adverse reactions. Due to that end, people were looking for ways to help nature along throughout history. We can follow along to see that as the plant or herb was added to and/or processed differently, it would change the properties of an herb or plant to work better, faster, or last longer. In some cases, the changes would cause more severe adverse reactions including death more often than when the herb or plant was in its natural state. You may have heard of clinical trials in a more current world, but in history it was practicing medicine. As we grew in population, the percentages of negative vs positive results were measured and determined acceptable loss vs quality of life. It is almost as if we have turned the corner around a complete circle in the world of medicines. It is clear the direction is moving back toward the natural state of what we intake to our bodies which allows for more natural healing of the body. It may be a slower process, but the results can be longer lasting or provide complete restoration to the body. As I stated before there are so many natural plants and herbs that can help with the same ailment, and your body tends to know what is best for it for the most part. One of the critical items is to ensure you are using the true herb and/or plant. You should know where your product is coming from. Quality products are out there. One thing to consider is what is local to you. For example, you may have heard that honey can help allergies. This is true, but the key is local honey within a couple hour radius of your home. Bees are taking nectar and pollinating the local flowers, plants, and trees in their home radius which produce the honey that have the natural antibodies to fight allergens. A teaspoon of that local honey added to your tea, coffee, or just straight each day can fight your allergies. It has been shown that even in the case of people with bee allergens are not affected the same way when it is more local to them. Herbs and plants that are grown more locally work the same way. If it can be grown in your area, then it will most likely help you. In the world we live in, getting local herbs and plants are not always an option. In those cases, be sure to do a close look on labels at the ingredients to ensure it is 100% the ingredient you are looking for as well as not processed with any other ingredient. The next consideration to help you determine what is best for you is the senses test. The most often sense that helps the most is your sense of smell. Your olfactory system is an amazing part of you that can invite the healing into your body or the disease. Many of us understand how simply breathing in the air can give you a virus on the one hand to awaken the brain by the smell of food or coffee in the morning. You may have heard of aromatherapy as well which goes deeper into using your olfactory system for healing. They key to the testing process is taking the time to take a deep breath and inhale of a smell and see what happens. Sometimes the smell may not be pleasant, but it does not mean that it is not the one that will help you. A good example is oregano or rosemary. Both plants have antibiotic properties and can help fight bacteria and viruses. To determine which is right for you, you will need to test it. The plants can be in three forms: freshly picked, dried in a container, or a large amount of the plant distilled into a concentrate which results in the oil from the plant that remains. The most commonly available is the dried herbs in a bottle you probably have in your seasonings. How much oil of the plant that remains can smell differently due concentration of the oil? The more oil on the plant, the easier it is to test. Based on that criteria, the concentrated oil form is considered the best to test, followed by the fresh cut plant, and then the dried form. Let us go through the testing which each one to explain fully. The concentrated oil is considered volatile which means it can quickly vaporize and still provide a reaction from its vapors. That being said it can be tested in some cases simply by putting the bottle under your nose and breathing in deeply a few times. As the vapors go through the olfactory system, it will cause certain reactions. Whether the smell is pleasant or not is the initial reaction, because it does not provide the answer whether it will work for you or not. The subsequent reactions are what will help determine. If after inhaling, you instantly get nauseated and gag, that is considered an instant negative reaction. Another one may be that you get a sharp pain in your head that may trigger a headache lasting longer than a few seconds. The worst reaction would be if you get a rash or swelling following inhaling. Any of these reactions is your body telling you that is not the one for you! If you get the swelling or rash reaction, it is important that you, wash your face, blow your nose, drink water, and contact medical assistance if it lasts longer than a few minutes or gets worse. That is considered an anaphylactic allergic reaction, and you may need medical attention. Since it is the oil in the plant that has the benefit, a freshly cut plant or the dried herb take a little more work. Sometimes the body sensitivity can react by breathing the smell under the nose when done a few times, but more often it takes a little more work. For the freshly cut plant, you can take some of the plant between your fingers and crush or smash it so that some of the oil is on your fingers and then breathe deeply. The reaction could be two-fold in this case, because now you have added the touching sense into the mix. A negative reaction could include a rash or pain on your fingers, because of the oil. Most often though, minor allergic reactions such as a little redness that goes away quickly is completely normal and expected. More often for the freshly cut plant or dry herb, it takes activation of the oil to determine your reaction. You would put the herb in a pan with a little olive or vegetable oil to heat up the plant. Once at the point of the herb smoking, stand over the pot and inhale deeply a few times. That will give you the same effect of the concentrate. You could also ingest the plant directly, but it will take at least 30 minutes for any reaction to happen, and an allergic reaction would be more severe which you want to try and avoid. Now, let us discuss the positive reactions of how you know which one is having the positive effect. In our example, we are testing oregano and rosemary. From a negative perspective, you now know if you are allergic to it, or if your body flat rejected one or both of them. Most often the reaction to one may be at least a little stronger, but that could also mean that one will work better. How do you know for sure? The truth is this where some time comes in. When testing, you need to wait 15-30min between trying different plant oils. During that waiting period, take note of how your head is feeling, how your nasal cavity feels, how your throat feels, your heartbeat, and any gut or digestive reactions such as cramping. If you have a fever because you are sick and trying to use it to help that, check 30 min after to see if your fever is down. Did your nasal cavity clear up? Does your head feel loss foggy? Does your throat feel less irritated? Do you feel the need to go to the bathroom? Getting rid of toxins is a positive sign if it is not continuous of course. All of these are positive results. If you get absolutely no change at all after that 30 minutes, it is time to try the next plant. Sometimes you may feel a little bit of a change, but not as much as you had hoped. A little change is better than no change at all. Using the next plant will tell you if it helps. In some cases, the combination of the both is the right remedy too. Either way, one of them is 90% likely to provide improved health within a few days of the treatment. Once you determine which one to use or the combination of the two, you would repeat the breathing in process three times a day like antibiotics you may take. Another positive result is that from this natural remedy, you will not have any other side effects that could cause long term damage! What a win win for you! Pet Talk
We love our pets! Many of us make sure that we feed them, ensure they are properly hydrated, get exercise, and help them when they are sick. It is easier somewhat with domestic pets then with exotic ones to know and find enough information on what they truly need to be healthy. I personally have both and speak from experience. In this day and age, there is a medicine for anything you may have or will get, and in many cases; it may cure. I lost a dog several years ago from a hip disease, and I think she died too young in my opinion. I did have her on different medicines from the vet and supplements I was advised to try, but I did not do the research to know what was truly best.
I have learned a few things with my study of essential oils and herbs since then. I would like to share a few things with you that may help for those with pets and want to treat them naturally and safely to live a longer happier life.
I have heard the hype and confusion on CBD (cannabidiol). Let me tell you that in the right dosage, it can help your pets with many of the things that ail them. There are over 100 CBDs in cannabidiol, and we have only scratched the surface in understanding them. I will not go into all the science of each one and what we know, but I will share with you the ones that matter for the ailments that will help you with your pets.
CBD, CBDA, CBG and CBN are the primary ones that research has been done to prove the benefits. Cannabidiol many times is not broken down and contains most of the CBDs mentioned. The processing of the hemp plant can produce or change the amount and type of cannabidiol and what CBD’s are contained with in. Generally speaking, most oils, tinctures, and edibles out there are a range of these, but I thought it helpful to share because some help more with pain while others help more with anxiety.
- CBDA (also known as CBDGA) is a powerful anti-inflammatory. It works much better than many NSAIDs out there including Ibuprofen for pets. When some CBD oils are made, the process removes the CBDA from the plant, so it is not always present in all found in the market. CBDA also is the strongest CBD available for nausea and and anxious digestive systems of pets. If you are looking for anti-inflammatory, nausea control, or help with an anxious tummy of you pet, be sure your CBD treat or oil contains CBDA.
- CBG is more focused on healing and treating pain. It has been found to fight cancer! It has treated glaucoma, and treat diseases such as inflammatory bowel and crohns. This is the component that researchers are scientists are learning more about now to fight various kinds of cancers and has been proven effective in our pets today!!
- CBN is the one CBD that may have some psychoactive attributes but still safe for consumption. It is used more specifically for the brain. It helps sedate the brain in a natural way to reduce seizures, allow the brain to rest for proper sleep, and calm overactive neurological and brain issues in your pets. This would help that pet that almost seems bipolor such as some of our bird friends and lizards!
For proper dosing, it is important to understand that it is different for every animal due to their tolerance, weight, and other diet. Many sites will say that weight is the only factor, but that is only a small part. You must know your pet! You have to watch their intake of food, water, amount of exercise, and other medicines or supplements you may have them on. These are the critical factors that make a difference. The dosing depends on the medium you are using as well. For example, if you are using a CBD oil, you should check first to be sure it has the CBD that you are looking for as mentioned above. There should be a stat sheet available for what you are purchasing, and it will say what CBD’s are in it for the most part, and including Full Spectrum does not always mean CBDA, but it usually does include the others. The next consideration is the mg within the oil or medium. Smaller pets should not start with more than 10mg in any case, where a larger animal may start with 1000mg of CBD. You can sometimes tell after the first dose if it makes them too sleepy, want to drink water excessively, or seem to want to eat much more than usual. These are the three side effects that are known to occur. You should watch your pet after the first couple of doses. I will give you one full example that I use for one of my dogs. I have a dog with tumors throughout his body, and he is in pain most of the time. He has other issues, but I treat his pain and inflammation with CBD infused treats. He is about ten pounds, and I give him a treat with 8mg of CBD in the morning and evening. If he seems to have difficulty on rough days, I will give him one in the afternoon. I do notice that he drinks more water then he did before, but in our case, it is helping keep his kidneys flushed which has helped his other issues!
I do support and sell Go Green Hemp products as they use 100 percent of CBD and includes a full spectrum of all the CBDs I look for in a product. If want help in picking the right product for your pet or have specific questions, please do not hesitate to reach out through the contact us above.
Thank you for taking the time to read our newest Naturally Random blog! God Bless you and your pet.
Bang Your Head?
Anyone out there ever had a headache or migraine literally make you wish you could just bang your head against a big wall and knock yourself out? It would be easier sometimes if you could just muster up the courage to do that, but we know that would only cause more issues than we already have. I used to be one of those people that only got a rare headache that was usually linked to a virus or sinus problem that was not too terrible to deal with. I struggled with the thought of having some massive migraine that caused me to black out or want to lock myself in a dark room and pray for the end of time. I heard all the stories and had family and friends that suffered with these types of headaches most of their lives.
The day arrived that changed my thinking about how bad it could be. I was in my thirties, and had the normal stresses of raising kids, full-time job, involved parent at school, worship team leader for my church, scouts, and other extra curricular activities. I was sitting at my desk in my little cubicle working on the latest crisis of the day. I was a project manager, and there was always a new crisis to deal with that came up. The phone was ringing, my laptop was pinging at me with several instant messages popping up wanting attention, and my personal phone buzzed that it required attention immediately. Seeing that it was the school, I determined that took priority. I could feel this build of pressure and tension in my neck and going up the back side of my head. It was my oldest son and he had gotten injured at school during their free time. This was not a new thing for our family, as it seems clumsiness, adventure, and no fear of injury went from both of us as parents to our children. I could feel the pressure getting stronger in my neck up my head, and a pain had started to come around the side of my head at this point. I told the school I would be there as soon as I could. I responded to all instant messages as best I could. I returned the voicemail left by my boss on my work phone and let him know that I had to leave and why. His list of things to get done and where are with the current crisis well discussed for me to deal with as soon as I was able. At this point, the pain and pressure was building to the point that I almost fell down when I stood up to pack my things. I laughed at myself thinking oh no, all is good; keep going and get out of here before anyone else stops you. As I was packing up my things, the pressure and pain had gotten around my whole head and started making my eyes feel like they were bulging out of my eye sockets. My vision became blurry, and I was having a little trouble walking. I got myself to the elevator and pushed the button down. By the time I hit the first floor, I could no longer see visibly. The blackness had taken over the majority of my eye sight, and the pain and pressure took me down to the floor. I could not even make much sense in my speech, and my hearing seemed also impaired. I was very lucky that a co-worker was coming in to go upstairs from a break. He found me and asked if he could help. I had no idea what was going on, but I thought that I may need a hospital as bad as things were. He helped get someone to pick up my son from school, and graciously took me to the ER.
Apparently, the ER had seen this sort of thing before, and they were not concerned about me and the fact that I believed I was dying! By the time I got back into a room, and they started various things in my IV, the DR informed me that I had what is known as a migraine. I remember laughing and saying that is all this is! How is that possible? They do not hurt this bad, and I had never had one. The Dr had to be wrong! Well, they treated me with what I learned is called the “migraine cocktail.” It worked like magic, but of course the way my body is, I started getting many side effects right away from the pain killer that was included in the cocktail. The itchiness, the hotness, the sick feeling of nausea, and the shakes. The redness on my skin turned into splotches and a slight rash. I was quite familiar with this result, as most medications I have to take give me a similar reaction. They gave me something else in my IV for those symptoms, and I eventually got to go home. I slept until the next day. I ended up getting these dipilidating migraines quite often after the initial one. It started to become a daily fight. I eventually got on daily medication from my Dr to help, and an emergency medication when a big one came on. I got more side effects continuously and ended up having some permanent damage to parts of my body that required surgery. I could not go on like this! I was banging my head against each wall I hit! I decided to get off all medications and search for natural healing.
I had been given a few essential oils for Christmas or my birthday around this time. They called it the basic set which is peppermint, lemon, and lavender. I was told that one of them may help me with my headaches. I did find that peppermint did help break through the barrier at times, and it definitely helped with the nausea associated with my migraines every time. It just wasn’t enough to knock out the pain consistently or even at all sometimes. As I began to study about essential oils, I learned about a few other oils that could he helpful with headaches. I tried a few blends made by other companies, and the result was very similar. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. I also learned that body types and brains are all different and may react differently to an essential oil aroma or scent. This could be the quality of the oil, the particular smell, or reaction of my head to the scent. Our limbic system reacts differently as well as the chemicals in our brain to different scents. The more I studied, the more variations I started blending with essential oils. I was of course my best guinea pig with migraines becoming a close friend of mine. It took months of trial and error, but I had finally found the best combination for me! I started sharing it with others, and many of them reported great success and wanted to continue using it. There were family and friends, however, that it didn’t work for. I worked closely with them on trying different combinations again. In this study, I learned that there are three types of people. There are what I refer to as “mint” people, “clove” people, and “citrus” people. It seems generally speaking, the mint people were in the majority, with clove being second, and citrus the smallest population. There are a few people out there that say they despise all scents, but their bodies still react positively to one of the three. It was simply which one appealed to their senses the most. With the limited resources I had, I usually offered the mint version as my headache blend of choice, but when advised it did not work, I would offer one of the alternative blends instead. It is amazing to me how beneficial the right blend can be to help our bodies! I hope that if you are a migraine sufferer, that you give my Headeaze blend a try. If you know you do not like the smell of anything mint, then I bet you are most likely a clove person! Have a happy headache free day!
The Big “C”
I feel today’s blog must be started with facts on our bodies and science behind some of what I am about to share. Wikipedia defines the Endocannabinoid system as follows: The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the vertebrate central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system.
This is harder to understand even for the best of us, so I had to learn and understand what this means to me. Endogenous lipids are triacylglycerols that are formed in the liver. You might be more familiar with the term triglycerides which is a type of fat cell. Retrograde neurotransmitters are messages that signal between cells that allow the message to be sent, received, and regulated. That message is carried through the ECS in cannabinoid receptors and bind with the proteins in the receptors released in the brain and nervous system. These messages reside in your brain within the neurons and neuro pathways. The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes including fertility, pregnancy, pain sensors, appetite, immune system, mood, and memory.
This article was written and fact checked by Eric Zielinski, DC (Dr. Z). There are research and statistics that support essential oils treating cancer patients. He writes that, “The truth about essential oils for cancer is four-fold:
First – essential oils for cancer research suggests that oils can help prevent and treat cancer at the cellular level. Additionally, and oftentimes overlooked, essential oils have been shown to be exceptionally effective at managing the side effects related to cancer itself and the side effects people suffer at the hands of medical interventions.
Second – it is critical to recognize that this is not an all-or-nothing approach. Just because you’re taking chemo doesn’t mean that you can’t use essential oils for cancer. The same is true on the flip side of that coin. Far too many patients and healthcare practitioners dichotomize natural from allopathic therapies, and do not give enough emphasis on the practicality of using both together.
Third – we need to put things into proper perspective and remember that the peer-reviewed articles we have that evaluate the ability of essential oils for cancer to prevent, stop and even reverse the growth of various malignant lines are in vitro. In other words, we don’t many live human trials with hundreds or thousands of participants, we have studies that are testing human cells in a petri dish. This is not to say that these studies are useless. The point we need to take from this is that essential oils for cancer is still experimental
Fourth – with this said, there are literally thousands upon thousands of testimonials of people on the Internet claiming that essential oils for cancer cured them. And this cannot be disputed because a vast majority of them are your normal, not-trying-to-make-a-buck kind of people who are not trying to sell a product. These are legitimate medical “miracles,” which are ultimately going to be the basis for further research.” He goes on to share which essential oils help in the fight against cancer according the research currently done:
Citrus oils – Specifically D- Limonene
In the
words of the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s open chemistry database, PubChem,
“D-Limonene is
an oral dietary supplement containing a natural cyclic monoterpene and major
component of the oil extracted from citrus peels with potential chemopreventive
and antitumor activities. Although the mechanism of action has yet to be fully
elucidated, limonene
and its metabolites perillic acid, dihydroperillic acid, uroterpenol and
limonene 1,2-diol may inhibit tumor growth through inhibition of
p21-dependent signaling and may induce apoptosis via the induction of the
transforming growth factor beta-signaling pathway. In addition, they inhibit
post-translational modification of signal transduction proteins, resulting in
G1 cell cycle arrest as well as differential expression of cell cycle- and
apoptosis-related genes.”
Clary Sage – Sclareol is a constituent of clary sage essential oil.
It has shown to have anti-cancer effects in laboratory evaluations conducted in studies dating back to 1999. Sclareol seemed to kill cancer cells through a process called apoptosis. Apoptosis basically triggers a cell to programmably die. This suggests clary sage oil could potentially prevent and treat cancer lines.
Frankincense also known as (Boswellia sacra, B. carterii, B. frereana, and B. serrata), Myrrh, and Lemongrass have been used for treating the results or symptoms associated with cancer. There was initial research that suggested that they may have reduced ovarian tumors, but from our fact checking, that research is not fully substantiated. What it has been proven to do is Frankincense and Myrrh are also known for reducing head swelling that occurs many times in patients in radiation treatment, or when tumors have been removed surgically. It has also been proven to help with reducing scar tissue on the inside of the body where surgical procedures have taken place. There are many reports that this oil also can help with mood levels and pain as a result of radiation and/or chemotherapy. Frankincense specifically has had great positive impacts on the immune system as with any cancer treatment has usually been compromised as such. Lemongrass can also help protect the immune system once Frankincense begins to help build it back up.
Lavender has been known for calming and relaxing the neuro pathways in the brain that can help you sleep, feel less anxious, and help protect the brain from some of the chemicals used during cancer treatment.
Peppermint and Spearmint are very widely used to help treat nausea and depression that is often a result of cancer treatments.
Thyme has shown positive results in the fight against prostrate, lung carcinoma, and breast cancers. It helps to balance your hormones which are usually negatively impacted by any cancer treatment.
Rosemary and Oregano are widely used and known for their ability to fight infections and provide anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits to patients.
Cannabinoid (CBD) has also been known to treat cancer. The American Cancer Society reported the following: “More recently, scientists reported that THC and other cannabinoids such as CBD slow growth and/or cause death in certain types of cancer cells growing in lab dishes. Some animal studies also suggest certain cannabinoids may slow growth and reduce spread of some forms of cancer.
There have been some early clinical trials of cannabinoids in treating cancer in humans and more studies are planned. While the studies so far have shown that cannabinoids can be safe in treating cancer, they do not show that they help control or cure the disease.”
I start off with the facts like this, so that my story may have some credibility for those that may be reading this and are looking for the science. I am not a Doctor, a Professor, or scientist. I am just a person that looks for what is going on with my body, and what is out there available to help it naturally. As from my previous blogs, you may have read that I have reactions to most functional medicine out there given to me. This means prescription, or synthetic type medicine that I have been prescribed or given from a professional. I highly regard professionals, so do not get me wrong there, but I am always happy to try something I can walk outside and find to try that may work instead.
My best friend in the world has battled cancer for most of her life. She has been through surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. There were years of battling and remission throughout the process. As I started sharing with her about what I was learning using essential oils and how they are used to fight cancer, she decided it was time to try something new. She had the sickness, hair loss, pain, nausea, swelling, and what I call brain fog, as well as symptoms that neither of us remember! I decided to try and create a regimen to help her in her fight of this disease as well as help heal her body from the trauma of all her treatments. I made a blend for her to take internally of the above-mentioned oils and included what is known as the Super Bs. These are basically a combination of B vitamins including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, niacinamide, vitamin B 6, 12, folic acid, and pantothenic acid. The Super Bs are also great for the immune system, and hers was in pretty bad shape. I also made a topical blend of a slightly different ratio of the oils mentioned combined with carrier oils for her to rub on her feet. Since the feet have such a numerous amount of nerve endings, the essential oils are absorbed much more quickly and can get passed along to the brain and central nervous system in the most efficient way possible. I do not want my story to tell her story, but she noticed favorable results within two days. Her nausea was gone, head was normal, and her overall feeling improved. I will have another post with her story about what she went through and her opinion on the results, but I will share that today, she is cancer free and is healthier than she probably has been in her life. We both feel that God had the most to do with it, as he allowed the science to work. I am not saying that my blend cured her by any means, but we both feel that it is a blend that could help cancer patients live life naturally better!
Pathway to Healing
How would you define healing? Webster’s dictionary defines it in a few different ways. The first is “to make free of disease or to make whole.” It also defines it as to, “restore health and to cause an undesirable condition to be overcome.” It can also mean, “to patch up or correct.” While many of these definitions are similar in nature, they are also very different. When you look closely at each meaning, you can see that they may require a unique remedy to completely heal each part. I would like to dive into an example from my past to help explain further. Won’t you jump in with me?
Picture this if you can: Alarm buzzing that fateful sound that screams, “TIME TO GET UP!” My eyes pop open, as I reach over with my right hand to hit the button to make it stop as quickly as possible. I resist the urge to snooze, as I have set my resolve to make the most of my day. I struggled for months with disk issues, nerve pain, and arthritis from it all in my back and neck, and I had the determination that today I was going to conquer the world. Well, I was going to conquer my own world anyway! I carefully exited the warm covers as not to wake my husband, as he was still sleeping soundly with a hint of snoring. He has hearing issues, so he is not usually fully awaken by the horrible loud buzzing of our alarm clock if awoken at all. I decided that I was going to the gym and do a full workout that I used to be so diligent at in my past. We had just joined the gym the week prior, and we now had our 24-hour access key. I had been cleared to go and complete my physical therapy as long as I didn’t overdo it. I was even a little excited about going, and I put in my mind that I got this! I brushed my teeth, because it is the first thing I have to do once awake, or I feel like the yuck mouth from School House Rock. ( If any of you reading this remember that, there is a song, and the mouth is pretty gross.) Why we do not have those kinds of shows for kids any longer is beyond me! Anyway, I digress, so getting back to it… I got dressed in my gym attire, and I walked out of the bedroom with our dogs at my heel to be let out and fed their breakfast. I was making mental notes as I normally do of the time. I wanted to get to the gym and back to be sure and shower before my son had to to be on the bus. How long making lunch would take for my son, feeding all of our animals, was I going to start a load of laundry?, making the mental list of chiropractor appt, and calendar of meetings with work for the day, getting some work done early before anyone else signed on, and getting my son to the bus stop to be on my way out the door. I realized how lucky I was at that moment to be working from home. My job was very stressful, but it was much easier doing from home than to have to travel as much as I used too. The progress of technology and the virtual world is a blessing sometimes! All these thoughts and many more that I can no longer recall cluttering my brain in a continuous loop. I got my son’s lunch done and all the animals
The healing process whether a brain disease or a truly physical one is the same treatment. I was put on medication to help me sleep and I was prescribed a multitude of upcoming therapy. My healing began with a home care team which consisted of a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, and a speech therapist. They came to my house and worked with me three times a week and for a couple of hours at a time. My husband had to take care of all the things on my list that I did every day, and he had to make all the calls, send all the emails, and fill out all the paperwork that I could not. He had to deal with my job and get short term disability taken care of on my behalf. He had to talk to scouts, the church, all my appointments, and plans I may have had with friends and family. My teenage son had to pick up more responsibilities and be accountable without Mom to remind him. We were all in a sort of shock, and emotions were strained. From all those around me though, they said that I actually seemed pretty at peace. I was told by visitors and my home care team that I was handling it all so well. I was positive. My husband told me that he had seen me come back from all my health issues before the same way including cancer, brain infection, hip surgeries, knee surgery, and raising teenagers. He said that I take it in stride and just keep going. I have a thought that I like to say, ” Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” Yes, it is a reference from Finding Nemo, a character named Dory that lived her life with that motto. I felt like that is what was supposed to do. I spend months in therapy. It was during this time that my mind started to think a little and remember things. My head hurt so bad that I could only read for a very short time until my eye gave up or my head did one. I spent a little time in bible scripture, and a little time reading about my condition. I started psychiatric care based on my neurologist advice as he was still searching for any physical cause of my stroke event. I also started outpatient therapy at the hospital since I was finally starting to walk again, so my husband and mother had to drive me to all my appointments. I had lost all control of everything in my life and my emotions started coming back from one extreme to the other. I am a believer in holistic healing. I believe if God made it, then I am willing to try it in the form he made it. I tend to get all the side effects of every prescription medicine out there, and that was the cause of some of my previous health issues. I started also doing research on what essential oils, or natural medicines, and healing options when my head and eye allowed. I started increasing my time in scripture which was healing my spirit and opening my mind to truth about myself. I had a blessed friend that was coming to see me and help feed my spirit since I could only focus for so long each day. She was a gift of God to continue in my healing process. She was helping to heal and patch up my spirit to make it whole. My therapy on my body working with the various therapists was not only providing healing for my body but gave me an opportunity to see others with the same disabilities I had. I did not feel alone, and that was helping my healing process of brokenness and physical and mental health. I was learning in my study of my brain disease that my way of coping with stress may have caused the chemical releases in my brain to trigger a stroke event and cause my neuro-pathways to freeze or halt. I was learning that it may take a combination of chemicals to help remap my neuro-pathways in a way that my body could help treat or cure my disease. I would have to determine the right chemicals to provide my brain healing. My neurologist tried to put me on prescriptions that caused even more side effects and increased seizure episodes. I decided to try different combinations of essential oils and herbs based on their properties. Due to my disabilities, this studying was as difficult to do as some of the physical therapy, but it was helping me have hope to restore my health to full healing. While I was coming up with the right blend for my brain, I did discover a great combination for headaches that worked for me. It was like a switch for me once I would breathe it in and or diffuse it, that my headache actually would go away. It may return later, but I would breathe in the blend again or diffuse again. I was excited to finally be able to continue to read, study, and focus a little longer. There were times though that I thought I could handle things, and then my brain would stop me with a seizure episode, or it would almost tell my body no and stop me from doing whatever I wanted to do. I felt that I truly did not control my mind, that it was controlling me. I started praying more, studying more scripture, and trying to communicate more truthfully about my emotions and turmoil inside. From the advice of my friend and my mental therapist, I tried mindfulness. I tried to just let all the random and frazzled half thoughts just be and sat silently at times or wrote down as best I could to get them out of my head and onto paper. It was like a small voice started talking and I could get bits and pieces of what I had studied and read came back to me with clarity. I started hearing what combination may work. I created a blend of herbs and essential oils to try and felt that it would work best based on the ingredients when rubbed on the back of my neck, wrists, and feet. I did this for a few days, and I started to notice something different. It seemed to allow my mind and my body to reach a level ground and work together better. I decided to call it balance, because that is what it seemed to give me. My emotions seemed more in check, and my brain actually started retaining more. I started talking a little more clearly, and seemed to be understood by those around me. It also had a great side effect of stopping night sweats, which I was extremely excited about. My family and friends wanted to try it, and they loved it too saying it was giving them emotional balance and helping with menopause, menstrual cycles, and general emotions seemed more manageable. I had no idea that my path to healing would help others as well as myself. I was learning a gift as well as being given one. I would be remiss if I left out the miracle of prayer from all my friends, family, and even a stranger that started praying over me to help heal my physical body! What is clear to me is that healing is not just one remedy or “fix.” Healing is a process and combination that includes faith, hope, time, the right chemicals for your body, and people in your life to nurture your healing to allow full restoration of your mind, body, and spirit. I hope that my story and my products can help spur your healing process.
